I refer to my niece Melody as my little apprentice. She displayed a desire to sew at a very young age. She is sweet and shy and very eager to learn anything about sewing. So I just had to make her a quilt. I didn't have a big enough piece for a backing, so I pieced together some fat quarters in some bright colors. I got a really nice HUG! She has made a quilter table runner when she was only 9. She is 10 now so who knows what this year will bring.
This is my daughter Kelsey Danley. She is also know as "Seams and Shine". She gave me this quilt for my birthday one year. She made it from a pattern I created and I love it. My granddaughter Raegan is very fond of it as well. Such a fun memory.
Loose Threads is a fun quilting group in Cambridge City, IN. I have a lot of fun with these ladies. The pictures are from a one day quilting retreat that we attended in the middle of a snow storm. We had a great time, sewing together, visiting, enjoying some great meals. Pictured is a quilt top in process by Karen, next photo is Brenda working on a quilt for her daughter. Next picture shows our set up. We had all the machines on a tables in a U formation so we could all see everyone. Next photo is Karen at her machine. Last photo is one of the projects I was working on and I am happy to say is complete and has been used a great deal this cold winter on my sofa keeping me warm while watching TV.
Kelsey has always loved Vera Bradley purses. Her now fiance` wrote a letter to Vera Bradley that resulted in a letter from Vera Bradley to Kelsey. I have collected Vera dinner napkins from their big Fort Wayne, IN sale with a quilt in mind. When I found the envelope pattern, I knew that would be perfect. I finished in time for Kelsey's 25th birthday. It has Michael Miller purse print fabric as the backing. As you can see from the pictures, she loved it.
I have so many occasions to make baby quilts or maybe I just like making them, but I think I will put them all in this gallery. I will go back through my pictures and add as many as I can find. They are always such a great one of a kind gift and mothers-to-be always appreciate them. Sometimes I try to match the nursery and if I don't, I tell them it's the quilt they use out and tucked in a stroller. Either way I always want them to be used and loved. I always tell myself I just need to make up a bunch and give up the last minute rush, but that hasn't happened yet.
